Artist: Kanye West
Title: Runaway (with songs from the album "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy")
Notes: This is not, technically speaking, a music video, but it contains music so I say it counts. \o/ Directed by Kanye West, written by Hype Williams after a story by Kanye West, starring Selita Ebanks and Kanye West. It's that kind of project. There's more info on Wikipedia, if you prefer.

No embed, for Youtube is flighty, but you can watch the whole thing on Kanye's website or download it from here (160 MB, "clean" version).

Artist: Enrique Iglesias
Title: Hero
Notes: Directed by Joseph Kahn and featuring Mickey Rourke and Jennifer Love Hewitt. According to Wikipedia there's two versions (which only seem to differ in the amount of "violence" and a tiny bit at the end), so you know, just pick whatever!

If at all possible, please include more than one link if you can (sometimes stuff gets randomly blocked or deleted) and if you know the video artist/director, let us know!

Welcome!

As it says on the tin, this is a challenge community for fanworks inspired by music videos. We post a music video about once a week, you create some sort of fanwork inspired by its story/setting/mood/characters/whatever and post or link it here. This includes, for example, a Star Trek AU in which Kirk is Julio Iglesias and Spock is Jennifer Love Hewitt (although why would you do that?) as well as an in-universe story set in Janelle Monáe's future world.

No worries if you feel the urge to write a 10,000-word fic or remix the video into a ten-minute mash-up, you don't have to be done within the week. Just post whenever, there'll be a tag to link back to the prompt.

» What's a fanwork?

Anything! Fics of any length, art and graphics of any kind, vids of any size. If the theme of the video inspires you to research a particular time in history (for example) and write an essay about it, why not! Just keep in mind that the visuals of the video should be the primary source of inspiration, so a classic fanvid just set to the song would be out, as would be fic based exclusively on the theme of the song.

» I want to suggest a video!

Please do so here. It would be much appreciated if you could include alternative links (sometimes Youtube blocks the most random stuff to random countries) and information on the video creator(s), but no worries if not.

» So, how do I post?

If at all possible, follow this template for the subject of your post:

Type of fanwork: Title (Fandom, Pairing)

Leave out what doesn't apply, add whatever else you deem necessary. In the body of the post you can go with the standard fic header or just link to your icon batch or what have you, and if you could include the title of the video that inspired you, that might also be helpful. Please include ratings and/or warnings if applicable. For tagging, use the "fill" tag and the respective prompt ID (year-month-#).

» I don't have a Dreamwidth account / don't feel particularly inspired by the videos you picked.

If you can't post to the community, feel free to leave a link to your fanwork in a comment directly to the prompt post. Also, the prompt post that [community profile] videopile is based on is still and will remain open. You can comment over there as well, using OpenID (quick how-to: select the OpenID option and enter your Livejournal URL like this: yourusername.livejournal.com; it will then check if you're logged in at Livejournal to see if that's really you, and if not will prompt you to; your comment will then be linked to your LJ account); you can also comment there if you find something inspiring on the list that hasn't been used as a prompt here. You could, of course, also create art based on one of the videos, post it to your journal of choice and never even tell us about it. We're laid back like that.

There might be a few more guidelines once we get settled in a bit, for now just have fun!
